Trainings and Orientations regarding child rights C.No. 8 A Concept Note on Trainings and Orientations regarding child rights Background Children must be aware about their rights so as to generate an able, competent and qualified human resource for national development. In last few years, the issue of child rights has been in a tragic situation. The 10 years long civil war has a great negative impact on children. Many children were recruit to soldiers. ..... were killed and ..... were injured. The government of Nepal though ratified the UNCRC, 1989; it seems to be signatory in this regard. The rights of children are discarded. Also, many Nepalese are unaware about the concepts and issues of child rights. The recent household baseline survey conducted by Child Nepal (CN) at Duwachaur VDC of Sindhupalchok depicts 5334 village dwellers being ignorant about child rights among them 2592 are children. The micro level trainings and orientations on child rights to the children and local stakeholders would be significant. This too can be a contributing element for developing a Model Educational Village (MEV) the CN envisions for promoting child rights through education. Objectives Objective 1 Train 5334 village dweller (including children) on child rights issues at Duwachaur until 2009. Objective 2 Mobilize the trained people and children for promoting child rights in the village. Working Area Duwachaur VDC of Sindhupalchok. Rationale The issue of child labor is increasing in the urban areas of Nepal. We view the remote, unaware and backward villages as its origin. Until the villages aren't make aware about the rights of children, any endeavours would be worthless. The trend is increasing in Duwachaur VDC as well. 413 children migrated from there are working as child labourers and many have been categorized as street children. In order to stop this flow of children, it's very important to aware about child rights at micro level so their steps would move in order to be an efficient human resource for the village itself. Trainings and orientations on child rights would play a significant role in this regard. Activities - Categorize the groups for trainings.
