Scholarship Programme

C.No.11
A Concept Note
on
Scholarship Programme

Background

Education is widely acknowledged as the most effective tool for transforming an ignorant child into an able and competitive citizen

Nepal is an agricultural country with poor educational and economic status. In this modern era also many children are deprived from the opportunity of education. Poverty, involvement in domestic works, ignorance of parents are some of the reasons behind it. What will be the future of the nation if children have no access to education? Of course, they can't contribute for the national development. Most of the urban children are enrolling school but the rural children are deprived from this opportunity. Those who want to enroll schools aren't getting the opportunities or there exist many barriers that compel them to be far away from the brightness of education.

CN in this regard, has developed a concept of scholarship programme for those children in our targeted communities of Mugu and Sindhupalchok districts. The scholarship programme is one of the components of Model Educational Village (MEV) Programme that CN is running so as to attain its vision-"Promoting Child Rights through Education".

Objectives

Our overall objective is to provide a platform for receiving education to the poor and needy children.

Specific Objectives

·          To provide the inalienable educational rights of children.
·          To empower poor and disadvantaged children through education.
·          To generate the local human resources for national development.

Target Groups

100 children of our targeted communities satisfying following conditions are our target groups. But, they must have devotion towards education and should've confidence for the practical implementation of the received education.

·          Poor and disadvantaged children
·          Dalit children
·          Socially discriminated children
·          Disable children

Rationale

The superstitious and educationally backward rural communities have isolated Nepal from the globe. Though various efforts and programmes have been designed, their practical implementation is very less. They've become city-centered. Most of the rural children are still deprived from education. Poverty on the other hand is a hindering factor for it. Those children who want to enroll schools and receive education aren't getting the opportunity or platform. The scholarship programme in this regard is quite significant. This programme can contribute a lot for a child to develop as an able and competitive citizen in future.

Activities

·          Establish a child trust for scholarship at community level.
·          Ask support from the interested community

Strategy

·          Co-ordinate with the local schools
·          Coordinate with the concerned VDCs, DEOs, line agencies and ministries.

Expected Outcomes

·          100 children will get an opportunity of their inalienable rights of education till 2009.
·          The poor and disadvantaged children in the targeted community will be empowered through education.
·          Local human resources will be generated for national development.
