Mutual Youth Sharing Programme

C.No. 16
A Concept Note
on
Mutual Youth Sharing Programme

Background

Youth age is one of the distinct periods in human life. The period is the gradual change from childhood to maturity. Physical, mental, psychological along with many other changes occur with optimism and energy to do something significant. The contribution of youth in nation building is praise worthy. But, still many challenges come in front that hinder in the development of Nepalese youth.

The current baseline survey run by Child Nepal (CN) at Duwachaur, Sindhupalchok reveals majority of the youths being illiterate (Survey is running at Gamtha VDC of Mugu, Karnali). Most of them are involved in traditional subsistence farming. Their level of knowledge is very low as compared to urban and foreign youths. They lack confidence and experience with the lack of opportunities to them. Also, the trend of brain drain is increasing. Many energetic youths remain jobless which is the bitter reality in the context of Nepal.

CN has developed a concept of mutual youth sharing programme in this regard. It is one of the contributing elements of CN's programme for the establishment of Model Educational Village (MEV).

Objectives

Objective 1

Reduce the growing gap of knowledge and experience among the rural youths and that of urban and international youths.

Objective 2

Organize the rural youths for sustainable livelihood in their birthplace thereby contributing national development.

Working areas

Gamtha VDC of Mugu and Duwachaur VDC of Sindhupalchok.

Rationale

Sharing and interaction are good sources of learning. Rural youth sharing can help the rural youths to learn the environment, technology, livelihood means and experiences of national and international youths. It can be a platform for them to expose and come front. They too can learn the international development policies and many others. They can share their problems to the international youths. They become able to represent Nepal in different parts of the world thereby raising mutual relationship and brotherhood. The sharing can help the international youths to contribute to our rural youths individually or in an organized way. This further helps to strengthen our rural youths for national development.
